Urban Middle School
new 152,000 sf middle school for charlotte-mecklenburg schools

This middle school houses three classroom wings, specialty classrooms, a primary and auxiliary gymnasium, a cafetorium, a media center and administrative offices. It employs skylights throughout the circulation areas and in the primary public spaces to bring a sense of spaciousness and an awareness of the outdoors into areas that would otherwise not have access to light and view. It also employs skewed corridors and rooflines to break down the mass of the building and animate the design.
