United Church of Chapel Hill
27,000 sf new sanctuary and fellowship hall
This new home for the United Church of Chapel Hill includes a 450-seat sanctuary, a fellowship hall with large windows overlooking a stream, classrooms, a library, a music room, and staff offices. The sanctuary is filled with natural light introduced through a skylight and a large north-facing window that also allows views into the wooded site beyond. The natural light is complemented by the addition of 90 small pendant lights which lend an ethereal atmosphere to the space. In addition to the lighting, the acoustical quality of the space for both music and the spoken word was carefully designed to enhance the experience of worship.
