Lake Wheeler Boat House
1,500 boat house and open deck
This client for this project was the City of Raleigh Parks & Recreation Department. The building is located by a small lake on a heavily wooded, sloping site and is nestled in the trees at the water's edge. This siting takes advantage of the grade change both by locating the building close to the water and by providing ample room boat storage below the main level. The interior space includes a large meeting room, offices, and public toilets, while a large exterior deck encourages leisurely picnicking and provides expansive views of the water. There is also a small concession stand that is open during the boating season. The exterior cladding of the building is a gray-stained cedar to merge it into the natural setting.
