Joyner Residence
1900 sf new home
The site for this house is sloped and beautifully wooded, overlooking a stream to the North. A trellis defines the entry and provides a shadowed transition between indoors and outdoors. Views from the house looking toward the stream are expansive while views in other directions are more tightly framed. The public spaces of the house are open to one another with the entry, dining and living spaces defined by a bench, a "wall of memory" for the display and storage of family mementos and the fireplace wall. This project received an American Institute of Architects Merit Award from the Charlotte Chapter of the AIA.
