Farnham Residence
470 sf kitchen renovation
The design goals of this project were to increase the amount of usable space in the kitchen area, to update the aesthetics of the kitchen, and to make a more communal space centered around the kitchen and dining area. In order to accomplish these goals, an adjacent hallway was incorporated into the kitchen; the existing laundry room, through which guests originally entered, was moved to the second floor; and the half bath was relocated closer to the kitchen for improved accessibility.
The kitchen itself was enlarged from 290 sf to 470 sf with a larger pantry, a butler’s pantry, and a central island measuring 4’-0” x 10’-0.” The aesthetic quality of the kitchen was changed dramatically, employing cherry cabinets, hand-selected granite countertops, and oak floors throughout.
