This project involved the addition of a screened porch and an exterior trellised area as well as the creation of a patio and garden. Two sides of the porch are open to the view into the garden while the third side is clad with slats that filter the view. These slats are reminiscent of the tobacco barns in the area and provide privacy, screening the view towards the Owner's dog run and the house next door, while still allowing breezes to flow through.

The porch serves as a “summer room" and the trellised patio as an "early Spring/late Fall room." Though the area is not large, the porch, patio and garden are used for entertaining groups of up to 50 or more and work well for these functions due to the easy flow between these spaces and their adjacency to the kitchen.
